Happy Halloween

The kids are thrilled to be celebrating a real Halloween for the first time this year.  We have always carved pumpkins in the Netherlands, and last year I put on a real little party for Maarten’s family, but they’ve never gone trick-or-treating.  Never worn costumes to school and had a party (which I have to leave to help out at soon).  Up until now we’ve left the over-consumption-of-candy part up to Sint Martin on November 11th (which I will miss).  No more.

Sam wanted me to buy grapes.  So he could peel them.  And put them in a little plastic bag to take with him tonight.  Just in case someone might chose a trick over a treat.  Then they’d get to feel all the slimy eyeballs in his little bag.  I didn’t have the heart to tell him no one ever does (voluntarily, at least).  And I forgot to buy grapes.  But I think I’ll pick some up at the grocery store near their school when I go in for the party.  You never know…

Oh, by the way, we’ve got a bat, a fox and a lion (if he decides he wants to wear a mask after all) this year.  Photos later!
